Prue Acton asks why green carbon is being ignored by the government
Prue asks why the Australian Government has excluded native forest carbon from its Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme. This question was submitted to ABC TV Q&A.

Planning Process for our Strategic Forest Campaign

On 16 February 2008,  SERCA held a workshop on “Building a Strategic Forest Campaign” led by Sheila Monahan of The Coastwatchers Association. Representatives of member groups from Eurobodalla and Bega Valley Shires attended the workshop.  Enthusiastic involvement in the full-day  program resulted in the selection of a forest campaign focus for 2008, agreement on a campaign objective and development of campaign and communication strategies.

The Problem our Forest Campaign addresses

Australian native forests provide essential solutions to the problems of climate change, water yield and loss of biodiversity, yet they are in crisis.

SERCA Vision of the Solution to the Problem

Natural native forests in healthy landscapes.

Objective for SERCA 2008 Forest Campaign

Formal Australian Government acceptance by December 2008 that logging of Australian native forests is a substantial greenhouse gas emitter.

SERCA will have reached this objective when there is full carbon accounting that specifies all emissions and all uptakes from Australian native forests.

Our Campaign Slogans

 Think climate, think forests"
"
Green carbon counts”
